JEFFREY CLARK: TRAVELER, PHOTOGRAPHER

Propelled by international development work and sating a life of curiosity about the world and the people in it, I’ve traveled the globe the last thirty-nine years, reaching seventy-some countries so far.  I have worked in famine-stricken Ethiopia, helped promote democracy and improved governance in former Soviet republics and evaluated relief programs in Angola, East Timor and Afghanistan.  I have been threatened by hooligans in Somalia and corrupt police officers in Moscow.  With my wife Jo I have twice carried my camera, but no guns, on big game safaris in Kenya and more recently South Africa.  Recently we went on a tour of the amazing historic sites in the highlands of Ethiopia, followed by adventures with the gauchos in Chile and Argentina.

A camera has remained at my side throughout.

My photographs have appeared in national publications and garnered professional recognition.  Photos taken in Ethiopia of the late Congressman Mickey Leland won a Katie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Journalism and Mass Communications from the Press Club of Dallas and were published in The National Journal.  I have recently joined the Rehoboth Beach Art League and currently have photos on display with them.

This passion moves into the modern era with the establishment of a website which allows me to offer a wide spectrum photographs for purchase at modest prices.  The site is loosely grouped into categories from sunsets and wildlife to urban scenes and the abstract.  As I pull more negatives from the archives the catalog will expand and new material will be regularly added.  I’ve just posted shots from a week in the Cornwall countryside of Britain.

From Jo’s and my home on the Potomac River in Southern Maryland, I am trying to capture the stunning beauty of the surrounding area.  The Potomac and Chesapeake Bay and the pastoral St. Mary’s County countryside have added a deeper dimension to my photographic pursuits.  These photos capture more dramatic and compelling skies and seas than those found in Key West or Hawaii.

This is not to imply a geographic boundary on the work.  There are also recent shots of London and of a state park in Ohio.  Some are from the Cape of Good Hope and others from a great urban snow blizzard in Washington, DC as well as President Obama’s second inauguration.

Please, click inside, see what I’ve captured.
